    Master of Engineering (Research Only)

    Program Synopsis


    The objectives of the Master of Engineering is: to provide postgraduate education and prepare individuals for a lifelong career in critical areas of engineering and management related decision making in the public or private sectors.

    The main objective of the Master of Engineering program is to attract outstanding individuals to pursue research of the highest standard, with relevance to the field of engineering and technology.

    This is a research-based program. Candidates will be required to conduct research work and submit a thesis for internal and external examination

    This program comprised three parts:

    Part I - Compulsory Core Courses
    Part II - Research
    Part III - Thesis Examination


    Part II – Research

    In Part II, candidates will continue to do research and thesis preparation through self-managed learning and or independent study under the guidance of a supervisor. Each candidate must meet the assigned supervisor at least three times per semester before he/she can progress in the subsequent semester.

    A candidate can choose any of the following specialization areas to pursue their research:

    b. Technology Development and Project Management
    c. Technology Management Technology Transfer and Implementation
    d. Technology Management Production and Quality Management
    e. Control Engineering
    f. Operation Research
    g. Production Engineering
    h. Civil Engineering and Geotechnic
    i. Electrical and Power Engineering
    j. Chemical Engineering
    k. Environmental Management
    l. Mechanical Engineering


    Part III - Thesis Examination

    In Part III, the student has completed the thesis and is ready to submit the thesis for examination. An internal examiner and one external examiner will be appointed to assess the MSc (Engineering) thesis. The candidate will be examined in the Viva Voce session.

    Bachelor's Degree with honours in Engineering or its equivalent OR
    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with at least two years relevant work experience

    Master of Environmental Science

    Program Synopsis

    Bachelor Degree in Science, Engineering, Technology Management or any other related areas with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent as accepted by Senate; OR

    Bachelor Degree in Science, Engineering, Technology Management or any other related areas with CGPA less than 2.50, can be accepted with a minimum of 5 years working experience.

    Master of Occupational Safety & Risk Management

    Program Synopsis

    This Master of Occupational Safety and Health Risk Management (MOSHRM) programme offered at OUM is a part-time open and distance learning (ODL) postgraduate programme which offers a qualification that provides a sound business and technical basis to support the implementation of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures, and to monitor their business effectiveness. This course includes study in the areas of management systems, risk management, OSH legislation, six sigma, occupational safety, occupational health and hygiene, project management and security management. The capstone unit for the Masters is a work-related research project.

    MOSHRM provides the comprehensive and real OSH learning experiences to the learners to successfully integrate OSH into business management. MOSHRM provide a unique mix of academic quality and industry relevance to develop sound, solid and professional competencies in OSH.

    Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Risk Management is an area of prime importance in the management of enterprises and other workplaces, generating a demand for qualified occupational safety and health professionals. These programs are designed to enable graduates to work effectively in a range of OSH professional roles.

    Career Outcomes

    OSH professional practitioners are in demand because of the increasing focus on the management of occupational safety and health processes in accordance with the law and regulatory requirements. Graduates of this course are likely to have increased opportunities across a wide range of professions and industries.
